The Heritage Foundation – Building a frightened chickenhawk one post at a time
This, in a post, sums up your common, scared-shitless conservative.
Focusing on the last paragraph alone is enough fodder for tons of hilarity – or it would be if such “unserious” people such as myself thought it was, you know, funny.
The remaining issue hanging approval of a permanent change is the issue of immunity for the telecom companies that cooperated with the government before the changes were made. But responsible legal scholars agree that due to the state secrets privilege, all of these lawsuits will be thrown out anyway. The only people who benefit from punishing the cooperative companies are trial lawyers and politicians eager to score points at the telecoms expense.
Wow, so many fallacies in such a short amount of time. How proud you must be!
So, let’s say you are some random dude walking down the street. All of a sudden, the President pops out of a bush, hammered as all bejeezus, and slurs out “Kill that guy!” You look, and the sonofabitch is wearing white slacks in November, obviously a threat to national security. You pop a cap in his ass, and all is good. Right?
Well, no! That’s not right. Just because the President told you to do something does not excuse you from following the law. This is especially true for a President who places himself above the law at every opportunity (signing statements, much?). All because somebody wore the wrong colored pants at the wrong time and nothing else. No proof? No 4th Amendment? Not necessary, according to the HF.
The Heritage Foundation is the personification of a bunch of people who would’ve been far more comfortable in East Germany because they simply don’t understand the differences between security and privacy. Old white guys at the HF (I assume a homogeneous environment of old white dudes who hide under their desks in the “duck and cover” fashion every time somebody sneezes or flushes the toilet), if you would like to have all of your communications eavesdropped on, go for it. I’m sure we can put together some sort of opt-in list for paranoid dumbasses. Otherwise, leave the rest of us the fuck alone.
And just because Bush told somebody to do something does not make it permissible in any legal way. The lack of logic behind your assumption is astonishing in all its unseriousness.

After somehow not blowing chunks and killing my laptop, I went through a couple of the HF posts, especially on the blog. And, goodness, these guys couldn’t carry an argument if it had a handle.
“Dear readers, see how serious we are? Go here and here. We can’t comment cuz we can’t think of anything unserious to deal with it. Hugs, the very serious and responsible Heritage Foundation and Home for Paranoid Old Rich White Men.”
However, the most telling thing when it comes to their site? No comments. None. If there’s one thing a conservative “foundation” can’t handle, it’s a conversation about the merits of its argument.
Yes, we moderate here, but because of spam and NOT because people might *gasp* disagree with us. Personally, I hope somebody from the HF responds. I would savor ripping their pitiful argument to shreds.
